Thirteen years after being designated a provincial park, Mount Palyeongsan was incorporated into Dadohae Haesang National Park on January 10, 2011, under the name of the Goheung Palyeongsan District, and elevated to national park status. Dadohae Haesang National Park, as its name suggests, is a park designated primarily around islands and the sea, and Mount Palyeongsan is the only case of a terrestrial mountain area being included within this park.
That a single mountain occupies an exceptional place within a national park designed primarily around the sea can be understood as the state's formal recognition that Mount Palyeongsan's screen-like peaks serve as a natural viewing platform overlooking the entire archipelago.
