Yongcheonsa has a tradition that the monk Haengeun founded it in 600 during the reign of Baekje’s King Mu. Its name is also said to come from a dragon that ascended from a spring within the temple grounds.
The founding date and dragon story are presented as temple traditions, not verified documentary facts. The former “1,600 years” claim has also been corrected to roughly 1,400 years.
