Jeongseon's eup and myeon stretch along mountains and rivers. The five-day market in Jeongseon-eup, Auraji in Yeoryang, Hwaam Cave, Mindungsan, Gohan, Sabuk, and Jeongamsa belong to one county but are not attractions around a single downtown. Curved roads, elevation, and sparse public transport make travel longer than straight-line distance. A first visit should choose either the market–river–rail axis of Jeongseon and Auraji, or the coal and post-mining transformation of Gohan and Sabuk.
Jeongseon-eup connects market and river
The periodic market gathers agricultural goods, mountain vegetables, and daily products. Walk beyond market day toward permanent shops, the Joyanggang, bus terminal, and rail traces to see how a mountain center depends on transport. Not every item is from Jeongseon, and festival congestion does not represent the ordinary population.
Auraji joins two waters and older transport
In Yeoryang, the Goljicheon and Songcheon systems meet. Timber rafting and Arirang traditions attach to this geography. Compare flow, water level, bridges, rail station, and village location. The river was an economy moving wood and people before it became a romantic backdrop.
Gohan and Sabuk are not one post-mining attraction
Coal expanded both towns, yet mine, union, housing, market, and later development have different spatial histories. Do not collapse Gohan's Gugongtan Market, Sabuk's labor memory, Kangwon Land, hotels, and entertainment into one night view. Casino revenue, public funds, work, gambling harm, and dependence must remain together.
Begin with movement and operating conditions
Jeongseon-eup and Auraji can connect in a day only after checking train, bus, rail-bike, and last return. Give Gohan–Sabuk another day and compare market, housing, industrial trace, and present businesses on foot. Eup and myeon are separate administrative centers; “Jeongseon town” should not describe them all. Each market, temple, casino, and rail attraction has its own operator and rules. Check ice, heavy rain, landslide, closure, and the exact ri or parking point. The point is to distinguish a livelihood built by water from one built by mineral before asking how the two fit the county.
