The Imjin River wetlands are dynamic edges of water, sandbars, grassland, farmland and settlements rather than a single untouched wilderness. Flooding and seasonal water levels continually reshape habitats. Military restriction limited development and routine access in some areas, but it was imposed for security rather than conservation and also burdened local residents and livelihoods. These effects must be stated together. Wildlife recorded in an earlier survey may not appear on a particular visit; note date, weather, water level and habitat instead of promising a species sighting. Use only the currently approved ecological trail, obey photography controls, and distinguish the National Institute of Ecology’s survey area from Paju’s visitor route.
