Siheung-dong, Mount Hoamsan & Hoapsa Temple · 🚶

From the Origin of a Name to the Summit of Mount Hoamsan: The Complete Half-Day Route

A three-to-four-hour route from the root of the name "Siheung" to a mountain of tiger legend, tracing a forgotten name and the reality that remains.

The core route

1. Geumcheon-gu Office Station (formerly Siheung Station) — Confirm the history of a station that changed its name after 100 years.

2. Siheung-dong's redevelopment zone — Take in both the image of neglect and today's changes.

3. Hoapsa Temple — Confirm the legend of Yi Seong-gye's dream and the temple's founding background.

4. The Mount Hoamsan loop trail and Hoamsanseong fortress — Climb up through the remains of a Unified Silla earthen fortress.

5. Hanuumul well — Confirm the Silla-era stone-lined water channel and the artifacts excavated there.

6. The summit of Mount Hoamsan — Finish by enjoying one of Mount Gwanaksan's finest sunset views.

Backup routes for different situations

If it's raining heavily

Extend your time at temple sites like Hoapsa
→ Move quickly through the Hoamsanseong / Hanuumul hiking section, with an umbrella, or skip it
→ Allocate more time to exploring the history of the old Siheung Station

If timing a sunset visit is difficult

Save the summit view for a future visit, and limit your daytime walk to Hoapsa Temple and the Hoamsanseong fortress section.

If walking is difficult, or accessibility is a concern

Limit your visit to Geumcheon-gu Office Station and Hoapsa Temple, and save the climb to the summit for a future visit.
