The name Sindang is linked to shrines and ritual practice in the area, but no single legend should be treated as a proven origin. Administrative boundaries and names changed repeatedly, so residents’ “Sindang” may be wider than the dong shown on a map.
Context
The older district grew outside the city wall among roads, burial grounds, housing, workshops, and markets. Folklore and administrative records answer different questions and should not be confused.
What changed
Former Sindang 1-dong became today’s Sindang-dong in 2013, while several other administrative dongs adopted names such as Dasan-dong. Address searches therefore require more precision than local speech.
How to visit
Tteokbokki is one layer of neighborhood memory, not its entire identity. Respect school routes, homes, workshops, waste-collection times, and residents moving through the food alley.
