Sejongdaewang-myeon & Neungseo · 🌾

Where is Yeoju rice produced, and how does it reach the table?

Yeoju rice does not come from one field or one variety. Farms across plains around the Namhangang and its tributaries grow rice under differing soil, water and timing conditions. Harvested grain becomes a regional product only after drying, storage, milling, inspection and packaging.

Paddy rice is not yet table rice

Moisture must be reduced for storage. Removing husk produces brown rice; further milling produces white rice, while broken grains and foreign material are sorted out. Variety, crop year, milling date and storage temperature can all affect cooking. The production address alone cannot explain every difference.

A brand is a chain of responsibilities

Packages carrying the same regional name may involve different farmers, processors and sellers. Read origin, variety, single- or mixed-variety labeling, crop year and milling date. Historical royal-tribute imagery does not replace present quality controls or prove absolute superiority in taste.

Distribution adds cost and choices

Storage temperature and humidity, milling to order or in advance, small packages and delivery alter freshness, waste and cost. “Direct from the farm” does not automatically reveal how revenue is divided. Fields remain private workplaces; visitors should not block farm roads or enter crops, and buyers can reduce waste through suitable quantities and storage.
