Gomso’s modern solar salt industry took shape in 1946 with the establishment of Namseon Salt Company. Its sun-and-wind evaporation method and salt-field landscape were recognized in 2021 as Korea Important Fisheries Heritage No. 10.
The insufficiently supported claim that the salt fields were created in 1938 has been omitted. Gomso salt helped sustain the local fermented-seafood industry and a culture shared by field and port.
