The lineage of Gwangjang Market, which opened in 1905, Pyeonghwa Market, opened in 1961, fabric and notions arcades, wholesale clothing buildings, and later fashion malls extends along Cheonggyecheon and around Heunginjimun. The district crosses the administrative boundary between Jongno-gu and Jung-gu.

Online commerce, changing distribution, and regular closing days continue to alter those hours. Never generalize that “Dongdaemun stays open all night”; check each destination's current schedule.

Design selection, sourcing fabric and buttons, cutting, sewing, and displaying garments could all be connected within a compact district. Short deadlines and small production runs helped Dongdaemun respond quickly to trends. Changsin-dong's workshops were a largely invisible production base behind that speed.
