Gauedo, a small island floating in the middle of Gangjin Bay, is connected to the mainland by two suspension bridges. Between 2011 and 2013, two suspension bridges were built, connecting Gauedo to both Jeodu Village in Daegu-myeon and Mangho Village in Doam-myeon. With the two bridges together forming a full loop trekking course around the island, Gauedo has emerged as one of Gangjin's newest tourist destinations.
These suspension bridges carry an unofficial nickname: "the bridge where Dasan and celadon meet." The name reflects the fact that the two areas the bridges connect — Doam-myeon, home to Dasan Cottage, and Daegu-myeon, home to the Goryeo celadon kiln sites — are being symbolically joined together. In other words, the two assets Gangjin most proudly leads with when introducing itself — Dasan, the symbol of its exile-era intellectual history, and celadon, representing the peak of the Goryeo ceramics industry — have been reconnected once again, this time in the physical form of a bridge across real geography. Visitors crossing this bridge experience, quite literally, the physical distance between these two stories with their own feet.
