Gunpo became a city name through the market and railway

Gunpo’s official local history identifies the railway station as the event that firmly spread the name. The Gyeongbu Line stop began work on 1 January 1905, and schools, a post office, police and a permanent market gathered nearby. This does not prove the word itself was invented that day; market origin accounts and later administrative use are different questions. Use dated official records and public routes, respect residents and workers, and keep legends, plans and completed facilities clearly separated.
