Maecheonsa was built in 1962 on the site of Hwang Hyeon’s last home in Wolgok Village, Gwangui-myeon. It enshrines his spirit tablet and commemorates his life, writings, and patriotic death.
It became Jeollanam-do Cultural Heritage Material on February 29, 1984. Speculation that he went officially unremembered for half a century has been removed.
