The Seoul Museum of History is not simply a new exhibition hall beside Gyeonghuigung. Its land once belonged to the palace precinct and was later used by Keijo Middle School and Seoul High School after the palace's dismantling. When the school moved, palace reconstruction, park development, and museum construction opened the area as civic cultural space.
Permanent galleries connect Hanyang, Gyeongseong, and Seoul
Models, maps, and everyday objects present the Joseon capital Hanyang, colonial Gyeongseong, and the war- and industrialization-era metropolis as one changing city. Homes, transport, shops, and daily life matter as much as rulers and spectacular events.
Outdoor objects did not originate at the museum
The tram and other urban artifacts displayed outside were used elsewhere in Seoul before being moved here. Their display location is not the original site of the event or service they represent. Read production, use, and relocation as separate dates.
The palace's contraction becomes visible behind the museum
Walking to Gyeonghuigung after the galleries makes it easier to understand how schools, roads, official residences, and houses entered the former palace. Treat museum and palace as one continuous history of palace land becoming civic space, not two unrelated attractions.
