Official research describes shell middens, hearths and remains ranging from the Early Iron and Proto–Three Kingdoms periods to Unified Silla dwellings and a Joseon beacon across six areas and twelve points. Surveys began as industrial development was planned; the site became a Historic Site in 2002. Reconstructed huts and displays interpret excavations but are not untouched prehistoric houses.
