Sunchang County’s place-name account says Manilsa was named for a prolonged prayer offered by the monk Muhak for Yi Seong-gye’s future late in the Goryeo period. Manilsa and Muhak Rock remain linked to this local tradition.
The earlier claim that Yi personally prayed to a mountain spirit for one hundred days did not match the official account. This should be understood as a regional foundation tradition, not a documented event of Joseon’s founding.
