A Korean-script manuscript of the royally banned Seolgongchanjeon was found about four centuries later on the reverse side of volume three of Yi Mun-geon’s Mukjae ilgi. The Academy of Korean Studies dates the discovery to 1997.
The former 1996 date has been corrected. Because someone copied the story onto the back of another record, part of the early Korean translation survived after the Chinese original disappeared.
