The name Uijeongbu recalls a Joseon government council

Uijeongbu originally named Joseon’s highest council, not a permanent local office in today’s city. A regional tradition says King Taejo and officials met north of Dobongsan after his return, and the memory later shaped the place name. The episode should remain a tradition, while the city’s passage from Yangju territory to town and municipality belongs to documented modern administration. A royal story cannot represent farmers, railway workers, merchants, displaced people and military-city residents who later made the city.
