The historical district called Yangju was far larger than the present city and included areas now divided among Seoul and northern Gyeonggi. Old references to Yangju must therefore be read against the boundary of their own period, not today’s map. The account separates oral tradition, documented history, excavation, reconstruction and current operation. At the site, check dated official notices, respect residents and workers, and record changes instead of generalising one visit to all of Yangju.
