Yeoju once linked inland traffic and Seoul by river; Ipo and Jopo were important crossings. Today’s hwangpo sailboat is a modern excursion vessel recreating an older form, not a preserved cargo boat.
Look beyond a single scene
Grain, fuel and ceramics moved through labor by boat crews, porters, traders and lodging providers. Modern dams, bridges, engines and safety systems changed the river.
Separate evidence from interpretation
A ferry was a system of waiting places, connecting roads, storage, lodging and loading labor. Modern excursion service operates on a fixed tourist circuit with engines and safety rules; it helps visitors imagine older transport but does not recreate its uncertainty or working conditions. Later bridges and weirs mark another phase of river use.
