Unexpected pavilions, platforms and sculptures appear between restaurants, forest and Samseongcheon. The park was not originally designed for art. Anyang Resort was once a major summer destination where visitors from Seoul arrived by train to swim and eat local grapes.
Popularity did not protect the valley
Restaurants, lodging and leisure facilities expanded, while disorderly construction and pollution damaged the stream. Visitor numbers alone were never proof of successful tourism; merchants, residents and administrators experienced restoration differently.
Public art redrew the map in 2005
The first Anyang Public Art Project, APAP, installed works by Korean and international artists. APAP is a recurring project, not a guarantee that every outdoor work remains forever. Conservation, relocation and removal change what visitors can see; check the work number, date and current tour information.
Do not climb or touch a structure unless signs explicitly permit it. Confirm water levels, trail closures and docent schedules. Foreign-language interpretation should explain that this was a former mass recreation valley. Its attraction is not sculpture placed on nature, but an ongoing attempt to return a commercially damaged resort to shared civic use through public art.
