The provincial park designation of Mount Palyeongsan · ⛰️

July 30, 1998. Eight peaks encircling the archipelago like a folding screen were designated a provincial park

Ranked as the finest of Goheung's ten scenic views, Mount Palyeongsan is composed of eight peaks: Yuyeongbong, Seongjubong, Saenghwangbong, Sajabong, Orobong, Duryubong, Chilseongbong, and Jeokchwibong. Climbing the ridge of this mountain, where jagged rock peaks line up like a folding screen, reveals the islands of the archipelago spread out in a sweeping panorama. In recognition of this scenic value, Mount Palyeongsan was designated a provincial park on July 30, 1998.

This topographical feature — jagged rock peaks arrayed like a screen — later became the basis for the mountain's inclusion in a national park in a manner unlike other mountains in Korea (see Story 7). Its provincial park designation was the first step in that process.
