Taeansa existed by late Silla, and gained prominence after Hyecheol returned from Tang China, settled there, and opened the Dongnisan school—one of the Nine Mountain Seon Schools.
County information says Master Gwangja later expanded it in Goryeo to more than forty buildings and 110 bays. The former claim that Hyecheol founded it under King Gyeongdeok, and the figure of 132 bays, have been corrected.
