The Hong-jang story was published in a 1729 Gwaneumsa history combining oral tradition and temple records. Its filial devotion, human sacrifice, restored sight, and character roles resemble Simcheongjeon.
Scholars regard it as one of the closest source tales, while also identifying many Korean and foreign traditions in the work’s formation. The text therefore does not claim a certain direct evolution from the Gokseong tale alone.
