As Seon Buddhism took root in late Unified Silla, Borimsa became a center of the Gajisan school. Master Chejing fostered the tradition here, and the school was later counted among Korea’s Nine Mountain Seon Schools.
Claims that it was definitively the first school or had exactly 800 disciples require stronger sourcing and have been removed. Its importance lies in its central role in Korean Seon history.
