Han Seung-won (b. 1939), a novelist from Yulsan Village, Anyang-myeon, Jangheung, has spent much of his writing life at Haesan, a cave-like studio carved into the coast of Jangheung.
Not an elegant study or a workspace in a major city, but a modest cave dwelling by the sea became this writer's lifelong studio. His sentences, composed against the backdrop of crashing waves, reveal how deeply the land and sea of Jangheung have soaked into his literature.
