After the Imjin War, Joseon moved records from the Mt. Myohyang archive to safer Jeoksangsan. Muju County says an annals hall was built in 1614, part of the collection moved in 1618, and the remainder in 1633. A royal-genealogy hall followed in 1641.
The archive once held 5,515 volumes, including 824 volumes of the royal annals, genealogies, protocols, and other books. Placing an archive within a fortress created layered protection from war and fire.
