Heyri is a cultural village jointly planned by artists

Heyri did not grow organically from an old village full of galleries. Artists and cultural planners organized a new community where architecture, exhibitions, workshops, businesses and homes could coexist; its name was taken from a local farming song. Museums, galleries, cafés and private residences are mixed together, and they do not share one operator, ticket or opening schedule. The founding community ideal and the later growth of tourism and commerce are also different historical layers. Use the current official map, respect private-property and photography boundaries, and check each venue separately. Reading Heyri as a negotiated place of artistic production, residence and tourism is more accurate than reducing it to a European-style theme village.
