A few urban conditions helped Seongsu-dong take shape as a factory district.
Close to downtown, with spacious land
It was close to downtown, making it easy to move goods; relatively large plots were available; and transport by river and road was possible Estimate. All three conditions mattered to factories.
Growth into a semi-industrial zone
As these conditions overlapped, Seongsu grew into eastern Seoul's leading semi-industrial zone. The wide roads and large-plot buildings you see walking this neighborhood today are traces left by these urban conditions.
