Uijeongbu Station grew from a stop on the Gyeongwon railway into a junction for commuting, military movement, buses and commerce. Opening, wartime destruction, restoration, electrification and replacement of the station building occurred at different times. After the war, soldiers, displaced people, traders and commuters all shaped the surrounding markets and services; military demand mattered but did not explain every journey. Today the Korail station, light-rail station, underground shops and bus stops form separate systems with real walking time between them.
