Park Kyongni settled in Dangu-dong in 1980 and wrote the fourth and fifth parts of her epic novel Land there, completing it on 15 August 1994. When housing development threatened the site, the former home and garden were retained within a park opened to the public in 1999. The preserved domestic setting matters because it was a place of daily life and writing, not a fictional setting.
