Driven forward as a project connected to the 2012 Yeosu World Expo, the Yeosu Cable Car opened in December 2014. The route departs from Jasan Park near the entrance to Odongdo and travels a 1.5-kilometer round trip over the sea to Dolsan Park on Dolsando Island. Dolsando had already been connected by road since Dolsan Bridge opened in 1984, but the cable car added an entirely different kind of connection between the mainland and the island — one that crosses the sea by air rather than by land.
A total of 50 cabins operate on the line. Of these, 15 are "crystal cabins" with transparent glass floors (seating 6 passengers each), while the remaining 35 are standard cabins (seating 8 passengers each). The crystal cabins, which let riders look straight down at the sea beneath their feet, are especially popular. Because the cable car offers an aerial view that takes in Odongdo's camellia forest, Dolsan Bridge, and the waters off Yeosu all at once, it has become one of the city's signature attractions since opening. If the bridge connected land to land, the cable car added a completely new way of crossing the sea — through the sky.
