In Dongdaemun, clothes look like finished products. Walk a few minutes into Changsin-dong and they unravel back into fabric, cut pieces, thread and trim. Because the production method splits the work across many workshops rather than making everything in one building, the alley itself functions as a factory corridor Fact.
Selling below, making above
The distance between the Dongdaemun commercial district and the Changsin-dong sewing alleys is short, but the two places show opposite scenes. Below, you see price tags and mannequins; above, bundles of fabric, sewing machines and delivery motorbikes. This vertical movement is where the whole series begins.
About the Ieum Pium Sewing History Hall
The Ieum Pium Sewing History Hall, which once introduced the area's sewing history, has a recorded closure Fact. This series does not present it as a place currently open to visitors. Instead, it reads the traces of this industry through the still-working alleys themselves.
