Hwaeomsa’s former Jangnyukjeon burned during the Japanese invasion of 1597 and was rebuilt in late Joseon. Reconstruction began in the late seventeenth century and was completed in 1702; King Sukjong is said to have bestowed the name Gakhwangjeon.
The heritage authority dates the hall to the era of 1697 and designated it a National Treasure in 1962. The account centers on reconstruction and architectural value rather than uncertain donation anecdotes.
